Ranch 57

CJ and I went to have dinner at Ranch 57, Plaza Medan Fair, Medan, Indonesia, the other day when I was in my hometown. The place is kinda nice with its own distinct concept, and the waiter kept telling us that Ranch 57 is under the same management as Lekker. I haven't been to Lekker yet, but heard that it's quite popular in Medan.

Nasi Goreng Balado was nice, but I found it too spicy for me. I love spicy food but I just can't handle them well nowadays I don't know why.. CJ's Chicken Fiesta was slightly burned, but was good flavor wise.Food are reasonably priced, however I found that their signature beverages are a tad too steep in price. Heard that they serve good coffee, so coffee lovers, you might want to give this a try..=`)

Tjong Koffie

So I visited Binjai, a small town outside Medan last month. CJ told me there's this pretty cafe just a stone throw away from his cousin's house. It's Tjong Koffie Coffee & Resto at Jl. So food was not bad, but not really great too. However, service was great and people love the cafe's ambiance. Heard that their thin crust pizza is good, so ought to try on next visit..=`)

Medan Town

To all Medanese in Singapore..rejoice!! You can now have your Medan food fix at Medan Town, 253 Tanjong Katong Rd, Singapore, when you are feeling home sick.. I chance upon Medan Town's ad in Cleo Magazine, and we went there when the sis was craving hometown food.. Oh who am I kidding, we crave for Medan's food ALL THE TIME!! =p

We were stunned when we were at Tanjong Katong Rd.. The whole place basically is a food street now!! There are a lot of chic and nicely decorated food places along the road, and some are really popular names like Punggol Nasi Lemak, Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh and Eng's Noodles House..

So Medan Town was kinda easy to spot when you are in Tj. Katong..=`)

We love all the food!! Of course we can't compare it with Medan's popular names, but the food are all pretty decent and we did have our hometown craving satisfied..=`))

Our favorite would be the Nasi Rendang Ayam and Soto Udang. The Nasi Rendang Ayam was spicy and flavorful we can't wait to go back!! The Soto Udang came with generous amount of shrimp and really paired well with rice. So Medanese, if you long for hometown food, you know where to find them..=`))

Excelso Cafe

Last November 2012 (Ya I know I'm slow with updates, forgive me!!) I went to De Excelso Cafe at Cambridge City Square, Medan, Indonesia, hoping to had their Christmasy beverage, Hot White Chocolate, which I had on previous year's Christmas 2011 (read it here).. It got me sad that it turned out they have different Christmas beverage every year.. Their friendly waiter recommended Excelso's Christmas special, which was Snowfall Coffee.. I hesitated as I am not much into coffee these days, but cause it has "Snowfall" name so I decided to just go for it..=`))

These taste amazeball!! They have choice of chicken, beef or cheese.. We chose beef and loved every bite of it..=`))

Snowfall tasted off to me, but CJ liked it!! Maybe coz he's more of a coffee person than me..=`) I hope for this year's Christmas, Excelso's gonna bring my favorite Hot White Chocolate back!! =`)

Jittlada Thai Restaurant Part II

The last time I posted about Jittlada Thai Restaurant (read it here) the pictures didn't do the dishes justice as I took them with my mobile.. So I determine to have a proper post of Jittlada, as they serve really decent Thai food..=`)

Jittlada Thai Restaurant is located at Cambridge City Square, Medan, Indonesia. Here were what we ordered:

Hot Tea at IDR 25.000 (SGD 3.12) per pot..

Tom Yam Kung at IDR 28.000 (SGD 3.5)

Prawn Satay at IDR 59.000 (SGD 7.37)

Kailan with Beef at IDR 33.000 (SGD 4.12)

Dessert was Cooked Tapioca Syrup at IDR 23.000 (SGD 2.87)

Loved every dishes except the Tom Yam Kung.. I was really craving for Tom Yum soup but I didn't really enjoy it at Jittlada, probably because I have always prefer the chili paste version of Tom Yam, and they only have clear Tom Yam on their menu.. Aside from that, everything else were yummy!! Go have Thai food today!! =`))

Kedai Kopi Torabika

CJ and I love to hang out at Cambridge City Square, Medan. The place is less crowded and it has a lot of cozy coffee places for us to hang out. The last time I was in Medan, we sat and had coffee at Kedai Kopi Torabika, Level 1, Cambridge City Square, Medan, Indonesia. The place is open and exposed, so if you're at level 1 in Cambridge, you can actually spot it directly. They serve hot and cold varieties of coffee and tea, juices and soda, also light meals and snacks.

I would say that it is an affordable choice for coffee and hang out place at Cambridge City Square.. Kedai Kopi Torabika also provides free Wi-Fi, so no complaint there..=p

You could just sit down, enjoy your cuppa and surf the internet away..=`)

Golden Rice

I had lunch with the cousin at Golden Rice, Sun Plaza, Medan when I visited Medan last month. The reason we ate here was because Golden Rice had 50% off discount on total bill with Mandiri or Mega Credit Card, and the cousin has one of those.

Crab and Corn Soup at IDR 32.000 (SGD 4.21)

Balacan Fried Rice at IDR 28.000 (SGD 3.68)

Hainam Chicken (served with Hainam Rice) at IDR 36.000 (SGD 4.74)

French Fries at IDR 24.000 (SGD 3.16)

The cousin also ordered Hot Milo at IDR 18.000 (SGD 2.37) and I had Ice Tea at the same price. The food was okay in general, fries and fried rice were so-so, the soup was nice, and the cousin claimed that the Hainam Chicken Rice was quite good. Total bill came at IDR 101.400 (SGD 13.34) after discount and that would count as one of the affordable price to pay if you are to dine in one of the fancy mall in Medan..=`)
